seconds with rev 74. It should be more like 25 seconds with the
fontconfig cache misses. I suspect @didrocks' issue is unrelated as he
was seeing more like 10 seconds. Perhaps just slower disk access under

In a cosmic live session there are permission denied errors mounting the
content interfaces for gtk-common-themes. Here's the output:

That's the upstream behavior of gnome-software. You have the click on
back button up top. If we want to consider changing that we'll need
some design work and review.

On a default Bionic Desktop installation, gnome-software starts early and
slows down session startup. In the bootchart attached, it overlaps with
gnome-shell startup which is also resource intensive.
With gnome-software delayed gnome-shell starts 2 seconds
This was caused by a fontconfig cache miss, which was caused by a
difference in the fontconfig cache version between what's bundled in the
snap vs the host cache on 18.04. This has been fixed with

A similar error occurs when one attempts to run evolution on a remote X
Desktop. It seems there is a dependency on direct rendering which is not
available in either the VNC or remote X windows environments.

I had it manually enabled in Gnome on 17.10 and just upgraded to 18.04.
On Wayland, I'm noticing fractional scaling went from pretty good to
broken; many fonts (even the datetime on the top of the screen) are now
pixelated on 150% scaling.
