Actually, automatically save changes is not checked in the session tab. Rhythmbox also isn't in the Current Session tab. I'll file a support request, but I thought I would go for a bug because it shouldn't have happened (I didn't tell it to). -- Rhythmbox starts every time I start Ubuntu!

Fair comment - best to keep the issues separate. For the record, I definitely didn't intend to save my session (and don't know how to given that it is turned off in sessions and it is no longer appears on the logout dialogue) but accept that it happened. Thanks for your help getting me sorted.
