Have the same problem. When I was on 9.10 volume control applet was
present on panel. I'm sure I have not removed it manually. After
upgrading to 10.04 it disappeared from panel and cannot be found both in
system->startup and "rightclick->add to panel". I'm not experienced
linux user, but for me it
havent met this problem on 9.04., but after upgrade to 9.10 it showed
