I'm no expert, but are you sure these e-mail programs are designed for
storing 100 000 mails?
I can recommend archiving e-mails now and then with Hypermail.

It's a bug to me, because:
- The point of the trash folder is so that you can delete emails without
having them gone permanently, you can go in the trash to find deleted
emails and restore them, as long as it hasn't been emptied. I lose this
functionality if I have to empty my trash folder regular

I get the same problem as VC. This is on Ubuntu 9.10 and Evolution
2.28.1. I copied my ".evolution" and ".gconf/apps/evolution" from a 9.04
install, perhaps that is what's causing the problem.

I can't say for certain yet, but I'm fairly sure that I found an email
in the trash which didn't appear in another folder where it should have
been. I was looking for a particular email and decided to look in the
trash. That's where I found it and then became aware of this bug.

I am marking this as not-a-bug.
Upstream bug has the following comment:
"note that in evolution, "delete" means "mark as deleted", but does not move the
original email physically (this is like IMAP works). evolution's trash folder
is a virtual folder which displays all messages that are "marked a
Thank you for reporting this bug. When you move a mail from one folder
to another it is deleted from the source folder and added in the target.
It happens that deleted mails go to Trash...
Nevertheless I will check more on this. I do agree it is sort of
strange.
