When choosing 'preferences' trying to select MP3 as the output format it
is not present in the list. When hitting 'edit profiles' it is present

I have this bug even with the gstreamer0.10-plugins-ugly-multiverse
installed manually. It is still a bug, still a problem. I have the
restricted extras package installed as well.

Patrice,
I don't understand why you've reopened this bug. What resolution are
you looking for here? Are you asking for sound-juicer to include known-
broken options in the profile list? That doesn't seem like a UI
improvement to me; why list if it doesn't work?
Or should the profile not be ava
This bug is always here.
Lame is installed, MP3 format is activated but can not choose it, until we
manually install gstreamer0.10-plugins-ugly-multiverse.

OK, did it like Max-Ulrich Faber already said on 2007-08-01 and it
worked:
* Open Synaptic
* Install packages 'gstreamer0.10-plugins-ugly-multiverse' and 'lame'
* Enjoy! ;)

Meadow, could you please describe what you did in detail to get it
working? Would be nice if I could use mp3 with Sound-Juicer also.

I found the issue:
The default string provided for mp3 binds the output of lame to id3demux (that
would try to remove ID3 tag) instead of id3v2mux (that will add them).
Once corrected (and I reloaded sound-juicer) it appeared in the list !!!

I faced exactly the same problem.
I don't want to install the entire set related to restricted formats but simply
to get Sound-Juicer to take that format into account.
Isn't it a procedure to make it "learn" new defined entries ?
If not, what is the point to have a menu to add them ?

The mp3 option only appeared for me after I installed "Ubuntu restricted

I think this is not a bug but a codecs problem. Both packages
gstreamer0.10-plugins-ugly-multiverse and lame must be installed to make
the mp3 profile appear and work.

I confirm this problem.
It was reported even in Bug #84007 on some comments.
Even if you add a new mp3 profile, it's impossible to use it.
It seems to happen only when you put mp3 in file extension box.
Feisty and Gusty Tribe 3 are both affected.
