Thanks Ted!
I never realized that. I've always been frustrated by this feature,
because I wanted my monitor to turn off much sooner than 21 minutes, and
no where did it say that I had to adjust the screensaver
(entertainment?) settings to fully utilize my power management (energy
saving) settings
The value is 1 minute more than what you've set your screensaver for.
So if you've set the screensaver for 20 minutes, the screen can blank on
21. It will go down if you adjust your screensaver values.

Here are the outputs of gnome-power-bugreport.sh &> gpm.log, lshal -m >
lshal.log.txt, and gconftool --recursive-list /apps/gnome-power-manager
> gpm.gconf.values.txt. Let me know if you need me to do anything else.
Thanks!

Thanks for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu
better. Could you please attach the resulting log file of: gnome-power-
bugreport.sh &> gpm.log to the report? You might also want to take a
look to the Debugging instructions located at

For me (on hardy, but it was the same on gutsy) the minimum is 11
minutes, but I agree that a minimum of 1 minute makes sense, I think 11
minutes is too long in certain conditions. A friend of mine was also
complaining about this. Should not be too hard to set to lower I guess.
