[Bug 208162] Re: files gone from USB flash drive

Maybe I did cut/paste from the hard drive to the flash and then unplugged without dismounting. The ideal result would be that the files were saved back to the hard drive, but it would be like 90% my own fault if they weren't. Maybe Ubuntu should warn like Windows when you unplug without

Linux Mint 4, based on Ubuntu 7.10. When I had that worst problem, where all the files were gone, I used Ubuntu 7.10 upgraded from 7.04. Steps to reproduce? H. I'd say it is not reproducible always, at least not from my experience. But, as said, files seem to disappear some times when I do

Hmmm.. I can feel I don't like that question... because I can't answer it properly. In Ubuntu I have only seen the dismount volume option. I guess that is the one you are thinking about. I must admit that I do/did not always use that option (Ubuntu does not tell me to...). As to the actual case, I

the way things are working is that the change on the fat devices can be delayed, when you use the menu item the change waiting are writting. If you unplug your key without using that you might have changed not correctly stored on the device. The copy to a local partition should always give you

The last time only one drive was involved, and the folder disappeared even though I did not remove and reattach the USB flash drive. The first time is maybe two months ago. I honestly do not remember exactly what I did, but I know I would have blamed myself if I did something obviously wrong,
