The problem seems to be fixed in Jaunty: I just installed alpha 5 (in
VM) and the chosen sound theme is kept after a reboot.

I have tried to install a Jaunty alpha in a virtual machine but I
couldn't get sound with it (the Preferences/Sound software wasn't even
installed). I'll have to check if it works in a more recent Jaunty
version.
It might not be relevant but I've happened to installed the PPC version of
Ubuntu
I am no sure it is the same bug (otherwise open a new one) but with KDE
session on first session logging there is no intro music as it is
supposed to be heard ; no problems hereafter with consecutive relogging
sessions (I mean when quitting KDE sessions and relogging) : the music
is there

I've downloaded the UbuntuStudio sounds package and set it in Gnome
sound preferences (selected as sound theme; my problem appears too if I
select custom sounds and manually choose
