onto USB drive up using Deja dup app.

Then I did create sudo vim /etc/apt/preferences.d/proposed-updates to
limit proposed updates.
Then I ran:
sudo apt upgrade
sudo apt install gnome-shell/

Enabled proposed and updated my system and the bug is fixed for me as well.
