I can reproduce the crash on 3 different notebooks:
1. Lenovo ThinkPad P14s with AMD Ryzen 7 PRO 5850U with Radeon Graphics
2. Lenovo ThinkPad T480 with Intel i7-8550U with integrated Graphics
3. Lenovo ThinkPad x220 with Intel i3-2310M with integrated Graphics
It doesn't matter, if external
I was reticent to install some random ppa. But since compiling it myself
would be some adventure. I removed my personal stuff and other data,
changed passwords and then installed the kisak ppa.
And it seems to work without issue. Just as well as in 20.04.5.

I have tested adding a custom protocol handler in Firefox by creating
the following entries in about:config :

Can it be that you have earlier installed HPLIP directly from the
upstream source? The system update could have overwritten parts of that
installation and now your HPLIP does not work any more.
