Apologies for the delay, was busy with college work. I recall having
this bug on Ubuntu 16.04 and 17.04 too. I will have to install and see.
Also, this bug exists on Kubuntu (not surprising) Fedora, Manjaro (both
latest kernels and updates) . I tried digging up more info on hp-wmi
etc. but nothing

Blacklisting the below modules one after the another individually or all of
them did no good. The hard-block bug is still there. [2]

blacklist hp_wireless
Also, while going through the output of dmesg, I found a few lines that
might be of interest (not that I have any
