I'm not sorry. The change to Mint packages was the best thing I did to my

network-manager and network-manager-gnome. I could not connect to my LAN afer
that. I was able to find instructions for downgrading the libnl packages at

Before I submitted this, I had run the following command, per the web
page mentioned above.

sudo apt-get install network-manager

Had the same problem on a Dell PowerEdge R730 with Ubuntu 16.04LTS.
Installing module mgag200 as suggested by Ivo Straka's (approach n. 1) worked
for me.
But as Giorgio Signorini comment #61, after installed mgag200 module and set
xorg driver to mgag200 and restart X.

Confirmed on i386 in VirtualBox 4.3.26 from upstream repos. Was able to
get to the virtual terminal and indeed the system is not frozen but
nothing doing. lightdm fails to start and there seem to be errors
setitng up the display in X.
Not to speak for him but Kamilion mentioned that this also fail
Also note Xubuntu is not affected. Other flavors should be checked.

Can you guys get virtual terminals, out of curiousity? If so, I'd be
interested to see /var/log/syslog and /var/log/Xorg.0.log and
/var/log/lightdm/lightdm.log. Betcha they jive with that other bug.
