it means the monitor is somehow misbehaving, so the only option is to
force the resolution, one way to do that is here:

Its an Intel® Core™2 CPU 6600 @ 2.40GHz × 2, with a Intel® G45/G43
graphic controller, and 3.8 GiB of ram. There should be enough system
resources to support the higher resolution. The OS isn't detecting the
monitor, and is using a default driver set at 1024x768;
