I spoke with Takashi. He was helpful and gave me a kernel patch to try
but I either didn't apply it properly or it didn't fix the sound issue.
He suggested I get a copy of the 3.9 or 3.10 kernel source files. Open the
sound/pci/hda/patch_realtek.c file and add this line with the + to the file.

Hi Raymond,
I'm not quite sure what is supposed to be set. I installed hda-jack-
restask, it gives 4 settings to change. Green, Pink, CD and SPDIF. I set
the green output to each of the available options (headphones, 3 line
outs, 4 internal speakers). After each apply I tested a song, moved the

Hi Max,
Download the 3.1.10 kernel from the Ubuntu website.

$ sudo dpkg -i
linux-image-3.1.10-030110-generic_3.1.10-030110.201201181135_amd64.d
Hello Purus,
How do you proceed to get older kernels installed?
Many thanks,
Max.

I have this issue too. Like Maxime I used to add the 3stack line to
alsa-base file but that stopped fixing the issue. I did some testing
installing old kernels and the last kernel to have functioning sound was
v3.1.10. v3.2 is when it stopped working.

Hello,
I just made a fresh installation of ubuntu 13.04 (Lubuntu, actually) on an ASUS
W7J.
As always, I added a line in alsa-base.conf (snd_hda_intel: model=3stack) which
was used to be enough to make sound works on old previous versions of Ubuntu...
but not here.
