Definitely sounds like a Compiz crash. Trying to launch compiz, or and X11 application, from a VT (control- alt-F1) will not work, since there is no X server available on the console. It might work if you explcitly set the DISPLAY environment variable (export DISPLAY=:0.0) first. It's unfortunat

What happened was that everything from the screen disappeared - the panel, launcher - only the wallpaper remained. It was impossible to launch any application, the only possible solution was to enter TTY (standard mode by hitting CTRL+ALT+F1). -- You received this bug notification because you are

Could you please be a little more explicit about what you mean by "Compiz crashed"? What symptoms did you experience? Also, you please give more details about "after going in to TTY"? Were you using an alternate virtual terminal (eg. control-alt-F2) or a terminal application on the desktop (eg.
