I guess this info is no longer needed, but just in case:
Neither of /usr/libexec/xdg-desktop-portal-gtk -rv or journalctl -f
produce any new output while reproducing the bug.
$ LANG=C dpkg -l xdg-desktop-p

Yes, it happens with any folder under my home folder, including the
'Downloads' one.
I'm using stock Ubuntu with the default Gnome shell.
This is an upgraded system since at least 18.04, via 20.04.
