Title:
Rhythmbox doesn't deal sanely
Comment from the developer:
This was fixed ages ago. Enter an album artist for the CD and the
tracks are extracted to a single folder with that name, rather than
separate folders for each artist.
I don't own any CD with which to test this, so can someone else please
try it out and report back?
Ubuntu 12.04.1
Rhythmbox 2.98
Tested with two recopilation CDs and worked as the developer describes.
Test case:
The CD was autodetected with the following values:
Album: Zabriskie Point
Artist: Various Artists
After extraction, the path generated was: Music/Various
Artists/Zabriskie Point

Just to point out: if you left Artist empty, then Rhythmbox creates a folder
for every artist on the CD. That means that if the disc match fails, the case
explained by the op could happen
There is no clear indication that Artist is used as foder name if filled, so
the solution is not obvious.

I use album artist and plugin rhythmbox-fileorganizer.
https://launchpad.net/rb-fileorganizer
With multi artist albums I use various as the album artist and when
organised files can be set to use album artist if existing and then
artist as a fallback.
I haven't updated it in a while but if
