This is a bit of a grey area, so I would love to hear the opinion of others.
From my perspective a vote is only needed when doing a release of the source
code, all the other things fall under the “convenience binaries/artifacts"
So things like docker images/BOM/packaging based on the source code
+1 for making this change, it will make the mailinglists a lot more readable
for humans.
@Gary: For example you have multiple mails around a single PR that are not
consolidated into a single thread because the username of who commented is in
the subject.

If Infra agrees to change the defaults and it makes your life checking the

My 2 cents on the matter, we have an application (Apache Hop) that is
mainly used by non developers so most of our questions are not of a
technical nature but more general hand-holding and troubleshooting. Though
it should be possible to do this via email you end up with a tread of 20

I think a certain level of uniformity would not be bad for this.
Having a fixed path to the downloads for each project makes it simpler for
the users to "shop" for Apache projects.
Having .a.o/download/ as a link that should point to the resources
makes it simpler for everyone.
