I would like to clean up the issues for the Maven site by going through and
closing old ones or applying any changes I find useful. Provided I get my
JIRA setup working .. am I okay to proceed on this?

rolling. I have subscribed to all the mailing lists and followed the various
ASF committer/developer docs.
I have also done my first SVN commit adding myself to the Maven parent as
requested...
