AFAIK the EL in the container was introduced with Servlet 2.4/JSP 2.0.

the group id needs to be changed from opensymphony to com.opensymphony.
This change is already commited to branch the 2.0 branch.

No, this is not a requirement. That may be a convention for some
companies, but it is definitely NOT a requirement to use the framework.
