ping -s 1016 nu.nl got about 1% packet loss, so the limit seems to be
1024 bytes.
Setting the mtu to 1024 seems to have fixed the connection (though 1%
packet loss is still enormous).

Try lowering the MTU on your network interface. (e.g., try 1000, if that
works, you can increase it until it stops working)...
