Btw, I know this because I fixed a gazillion font related bugs in
OpenJDK in the past, most of which in the OpenJDK 6 and 7 era, I
rarely ever had to touch 8 or later.

Well, that's why it should be "curated" and not just a mirror of maven central.

This makes sense, since Fedora is a community effort.

maven packages served via a Fedora managed repository would be a
better investment.
For that to work we need a solid distribution of OpenJDK (which we
have) and a solid distribution of maven (which we also have).

To be honest, when I look at this example, I think we shouldn't have
that library/application packaged at all.
If something can't even run the tests without requiring a 12+ year old
obsoleted code/infrastructure, what chances are that it's maintained
correctly?

development, so we put efforts in ensuring that OpenJDK (and JMC) are
packaged correctly.
Also, there is always the risk that someone leaves to do better
things, but this doesn't mean "completely broken" (otherwise why
haven't the packages been retired?), so I think my first question is
still va
ken Java stack in Fedora.
When I read this I'm always puzzled by the negativity.
What is "completely broken" exactly that you need? Things seem to work
quite well.

Well, yeah, but some people don't really have a choice and it would be
unfair to ask them not to contribute because we don't like HTML
mailers (which is a problem, I agree, but shouldn't be
discriminatory).
