[O-MPI devel] Process for modifying APIs

2005-11-21 Thread Ralph H. Castain
Yo all As you may have seen from earlier emails, I encountered some difficulty in modifying existing APIs within the streamlined build system. After some effort, I think I have defined a method for modifying the API-level of a subsystem that gets around some of the problems. I thought I might

[O-MPI devel] NEWS file

2005-11-21 Thread Jeff Squyres
I just added a NEWS file in both v1.0 and the trunk. It's meant to be a list of user-noticable changes between versions. We found in LAM that users look at it to see what's new between successive release versions. It was also helpful for users searching for specific bug fixes (e.g., they fou

[O-MPI devel] 1.0.1 in the works

2005-11-21 Thread Jeff Squyres
Folks -- We just found a fairly serious issue in the sm btl that is going to force a 1.0.1 in the Near Future (i.e., sooner than we expected). Specifically, at least part of the sm btl fixes from the trunk did not make it into the 1.0 release (I'm looking through the logs to figure out what

Re: [O-MPI devel] libtool question

2005-11-21 Thread Jeff Squyres
There were a whole bunch of Makefile.am changes that changed where things got compiled in a recent update. You might want to re-autogen/configure. On Nov 21, 2005, at 4:24 PM, George Bosilca wrote: Guys, Forget about this email, I found the answer by myself The problem seems to be not with

2005-11-21 Thread George Bosilca
Guys, Forget about this email, I found the answer by myself The problem seems to be not with libtool but with the way the last update worked. If I compile using VPATH I get the error. If I go in the respective directory and first do make (not make install) then the problem does not appear

[O-MPI devel] libtool question

2005-11-21 Thread George Bosilca
I remember a discussion few weeks ago about the devel package required by libtool in order to be able to compile Open MPI. But as far as I remember the conclusion is that we will not require it as we have our own ... I am wrong about that ? After updating to the latest trunk on all of the c

Re: [O-MPI devel] New build methodology

2005-11-21 Thread Ralph H. Castain
Hi Ralf Appreciate the offer, but I think at this stage it isn't worth the hassle. We either implement a long-term fix, or just pay the price. Thanks though Ralph At 01:37 AM 11/21/2005, you wrote: Hi Ralph, * Ralph H. Castain wrote on Mon, Nov 21, 2005 at 04:04:34AM CET: > Just as an FYI -

Yeah, I recall the discussions and we did, in fact, bring the subdirectory thing up. What I'm now seeing is that, at least for me, I hadn't really realized the full implications of that decision. It works great if you are just making changes within an existing subsystem - but if you need to mod
