as the existing SME is the gateway for the entire office, I would prefer to
not take it off-line, but you do make a lot of sense. It will mean I can
test only out of hours though, and my wife is not going to be happy.
I think the easiest option may be to remove the initial test envoronm

Router (new - pretending to be internet)

SME v5 Gateway (new - for testing)

The message before was essentially to say that I will now move testing to
the "basic" option. At least it was working in ESSG 4.1.1, if we can get
static IP to static IP to work, then there is more work required right at
the start.
At least I have the equipment to do the testing

Here's a report on my work last night, trying to connect my home SnapGear to
the office SME.
In all I made 12 attempts with variations on IPSec configurations at both
ends.
No joy at all. ;o(
I will build today a SME to go into my home, and see what I can do with it
(dynamic IP provided by ppp
