So, your method is the right one: starting from templates where needed.
And fortunately it would be easy to code, with almost no impact on ui: ''new

I like the way Dia works, and find it very flexible. I think learning the
software is the best choice.
I do not develop this code, however, I have seen the developers engage with
people and incorporate new ideas and features, often. This is what I
observe.

No, it's time to carefully appraise the issue and make an informed decision.

I have a Dia called Start Dia File that has all the settings I like, grid

for me to expect Dia to have exactly what I want as a default, but this
simple solution does provide that:
When I start up, my Start Dia File is in

Yes, I know not all drawings are circuit dia
Chris,
Not every drawing is a circuit diagram. Dia is designed to be general
purpose, so some tasks require that you use Dia the way a generalized
program requires it.
If you want to do circuit diagrams then the a specific software may very
well be easier for that task. However, that software

Right you can show the margin boundaries - if they are set to contrast with
the background.
You can change the Scale of the page at the Page Setup menu to be
practically infinite if you like that. The world can fit inside an A4
sheet if you like, or you can adjust it as needs be.
