The point I am making is that us hams have a lot
of tools in our EMCOMM arsenals.. and using this
irrational hatred of Winlink...to discard one
of our tools makes no sense...
I am unaware of anyone suggesting Winlink being
discarded. That is a red herring.

I would caution anyone from trying to set up a dual boot system. I had
done this a number of times and had pretty good luck but also have had
one case where I managed somehow to damage the MBR (Master Boot Record)
with the Linux install and had to totally redo the drive from scratch.

Let me voice some cynicism here also. I note you said we were unable
to establish VHF/UHF/Cell Phone or Land Line voice communications
between the San Diego EOC and the Imperial County EOC. I see no
mention of direct HF communications on 80m or 40m using a digital mode
or even voice. To have
that makes sense. Now if we can apply that to the
endless winlink arguments on here, I'd give them a 590

Ill continue to use RST, it means the same exact
thinig for digital, either the tones are good (9) or bad (something less than
9), and that is what makes the quality.
I have other things to worry about.

Title: RE: [digitalradio] Re: NTS and traffic handling and digital
I am in total agreement that WinLink 2000 using Pactor III is just one robust data mode and message handling system. It is currently the only mode/messaging system with a continental U.S. network on the ham bands.

I have 745 PSK QSOs logged, but have never once received an RSQ
report. Anyone else receive any?

Never heard of it until this hit the reflector.
Someone else tried changing the reporting system a year or so ago and it
flopped. I forgot what it was called

I use Puppy Linux and dual booting, triple booting,
etc. are relatively trivial with no crashing problems.
I think a more basic Linux helps as well as avoiding
use of the MS version of windows except when absolutely
necessary -- it is unstable in all of its iterations.
We are really close to the

I'm thinking of starting a digital net on 30m. The purposes include
jump-starting the 30m band and passing traffic. I'm surprised 30m is
so empty, even when WWV is S9+ at 10 MHz. I thought that 30m spends
more hours per day open than any other band. I think digital modes

I second that as they serve very little if any

I tried to listen weekly when I was overseas, 20
years ago. It was the ONLY news on ham radio, back then. It is
probably still useful to a couple of hands full of people who are in the
hinterland and have no computer connectivity.

I know some who do use the bulletins. I occasionally use it to check out
my receiving since there are precious few digital transmissions of the
types they transmit. Also, a friend of mine who has been involved with
digital stuff since I have known him (over 40 years now) uses the CW
bulletins.
