I guess I explained the whole thing badly right from the start! I
didn't really care if I listened to the audio through a soup can, as
long as I had better control over the audio level hi! The way it comes
through the AF control of the 746 is either "off" or "too loud". The

dual soundcard system. One card is dedicated to I/O for the rig, and the
other is dedicated to all other sounds, such as DX spotting, Windows
messages, and so on, which is sent to the speakers. I have the rig audio
