Adrian,
i think using persona's beyond their usual purpose is a great way to connect
all employees to their customer base. It implies:

IE 5.5 is DEAD!
After a little searching, I found that ...
* One of our biggest clients had less than 30 Mac IE 5.5 users over
the last 3 months (averaging about 0.003% of visitors)
* Only one of our clients requires us to test IE 5.5 (on the PC) and
none require Mac IE 5.5

My apologies... I was probably a bit unclear. A few people sent me
links on where I could obtain these fonts by actually having to
purchase them. I already know about those avenues.
But I don't want to buy these fonts for every single machine in my
design studio, costing me upwards of $10,00
I just checked google analytics for one of my sites that's been
getting a lot of mainstream traffic. In the past two months, we've
received more than 189,000 visits. I don't see IE 5/ Mac, although I
do see 4 visits from an unspecified IE.
Also, IE/Windows is about 45% of total visitors.
Ok... I'm sending this to the mailing list because I know Chris and
some other Microsoft people are reading this...

Hi Zack,
On one of the B to C sites I manage there were 112,000 unique
visitors, 121 of whom used IE 5 on the Mac. On a B to B site I manage,
albeit with much lower traffic, 0 visitors used IE 5 on the Mac.

Can anyone refer me to some material that explores user interaction
design best practices in the context of using various web site
navigation constructs (tabs, mouse-overs, breadcrumbs and left hand
column navigation)?
I have managed a number of employee portal implementations over the
years.

I'm monitoring Google Analytics on two sites. Out of 3,600 total
visitors to both sites, one person came in on Explorer for Mac

not sure how valid these stats are...

IMHO - None. No hard data needed.
I will never support that browser again, nor will I recommend it be supported.
It's very old, outdated, no longer downloadable, nobody supports it and it's
crazy-broken.
If this is elitist in any way so be it. You have to draw the line somewhere.

Hi Zack,
I have heard the call for separate lists for the last 4 years. This is not a
new request. I will put forward that the success of this global community is
for the exact reason of NOT doing that.
But let's put that a side for a moment.
Here has been my long time beef with separated discuss
Perhaps a bit off topic, but ...
I was hoping a few of you might have (or wouldn't mind asking around
to get some) stats on visitors using IE 5 on the Mac. As a percentage
of users, I expect it to be small but I have no hard numbers.
Any help is appreciated. Thanks.

At the November IxDA Board Retreat, we discussed extensively the pros
and cons of splitting up the mailing list into multiple lists.
Ultimately, we decided not to, although obviously the topic is open to
revisiting.
Why did we decide to retain the one list (despite the increased level

I am going to get slightly philosophical and maybe it will illustrate

I'm interested in any information I can find on the effectiveness of

like what happens when a user posts a comment on engadget: an email is sent

Unfortunately it's already a common practice in the travel industry,
which has (quite predictably) not been very popular with consumers:
