I once did a music web site (now defunct: http://tinyurl.com/ycofvkq). Alpha listings are a great way to prove that the website offers more artists than you can shake a stick at. People scan lists to evaluate the general quality of the offerings. . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . .

A music site should attract not just the primary users who knows what their goals are (what they want to listen to and buy), but also the general audience who are not always familiar with the new artist or the playlist. Scanning the list by names, their images or listening to sample of their songs

I tend to be with the search camp on this one. It, of course, largely depends on who the primary users are and what their goals are (and what the primary business goals of the site are). If the idea is to provide users with a way to find the music they love and play it/buy it easily, search is th

I have to agree with Diego, I don't see how browsing by name will help users discover music they are interested in. A "Browse by Genre" or "Find artists similar to..." would probably be a better fit. Of course, those results of artists in a particular genre could be ordered alphabetically by de

Two reasons to keep alphabetical navigation: 1 - Create an overview It´s valuable to give users a broad sense of the whole collection covered by the site, specially if it is driven to a specific style. 2 - Allow exploration It is a mistake to assume that every user come to your site with a sharpl

Hey Parth, Two thoughts. Sometimes you can't remember the name of the artist so browsing through an alpha list could help you find them. Browsing artists alphabetically is a feature most people would expect. It's kind of a baseline interaction, so omitting it would create confusion and possibly
