I know there was a bug in the previous version of fb2k. When applying
replaygain to mp3 files, fb2k was erasing ID3v2 tags and writing the
gain settings to an Id3v1 tag. It seriously fubar'ed my tags.
I'm not sure if the latest fb2k beta has this bug, because I now use
Mp3Gain to apply my gain
That's not strictly true. They are read during the scan and then the
modification date is checked and the file tags may be reread upon
playing.
Also, if you navigate right into the song in browse music folder, you
can see much of the tag info metadata.

The Great Firewall of China doesn't seem to affect Squeezenetwork in
anyway. However, the general inconsistency of available bandwidth on
my Cable Modem often causes internet radio to stutter. On those days,
I have no choice but to not listen to streams.
If you are lucky to get a reliable ISP,
Tags are not read when using browse music folder.

New fact - this only happens when I browse music folders, my preferred
way of listening to my SB3. If I browse by anything else, the volume
adjustment is right where it should be. So I guess this is a browse
music folders question and not a replaygain question - what is
different about browse mus

genres I want (or at least strings I want genres or their parents

the problem with the 6.3 nightly are missing perl modules.
The first was Digest::SHA1
I think this is not the only one.
How can i compile these modules for Slimserver on the DS?

An update since my last post. My SB3 is not streaming music, freezing
shortly before the end of a single track. I have checked firewalls and
hardbooted the SB3 from scratch.
I am running it wirelessly and now have it next to my my router.

This is a minor update. Just a few performance tweaks for the browse
functions. The client (IE) is now allowed to cache the XML data which
makes things a bit faster without complicating the javascript too much.

Just installed SlimServer on a new PC, and got it all up an running -
EXCEPT that scanning my music doesn't add anything!
Music folder is set to C:\Music Library\mp3 (which is correct) but a
rescan produces nothing - and I have some 10,000 tracks!
Any ideas why it doesn't find anything?

kdf - thanks. deleting the cookie worked. as you suspected, it occurred only in the Fishbone skin. As to the browse page it was on, I beleive the left pane was on a search result page and the right plane was an album added from the search results. thanks again. charles

Okay, on your Ubuntu box, first uninstall slismerver:
apt-get remove slimserver
The Remove procedure doesn't seem to get rid of everything, so I did a
quick check for any stuff that was left via:
cd /
find / -name slimserver*
and rmeoved the excess stuff.
Next, download the tarba

6.0.6.
Trouble is I don't know how hoe to use the 6.3 tarball.

the songinfo page is common to EN, Default, and Fishbone now, so maybe
I've not done enough at the script level to handle it. I'll look into
it but I can't offer an ETA. It's a little crazy now with
split-scanner stuff. not to mention the day job :)

I am using a 6.5 nightly from about a week back (SlimServer Version:
6.5b1 - 7936 - Windows XP - EN - cp1252). I use the Fishbone Tan skin.
There may be a problem with it.
If I click on a track title shown in my current playlist the track
details as displayed on the left hand sid
can't think you would have any problems. is the power pack not universal
110v to 240v? that way you only need a socket converter.
do you use internet radio? would this be affected by Chinas massive
internet firewall?

Strangely I have just noticed this today but with 6.3 (SlimServer
Version: 6.3.0 - 7386 - Windows XP - EN - cp1252). My 6.5 version
(SlimServer Version: 6.5b1 - 7936 - Windows XP - EN - cp1252) is fine.
Both on XP.
