Well, for Harry (but not utowana - don't know about matt as you've not
said what you are using) the following bug may be relevant...

I completely removed 6.5.0 and installed 6.5.1. It won't even start --
or rather, it starts and then quickly dies.
I found that 6.5.0 will start if I boot the computer, log in, then
reboot it, so I reverted the computer to where it was. Is there
somewhere to look for an error log?

I'm running Slimserver 6.5.0 on a Windows 2000 machine. I just installed
the official Windows release of Slimserver as it came out of the box.
It's working fine.
I've seen references to ActiveState Perl, and am interested in whether
it could be of any benefit on my setup. I've searched the forums
If somebody has the same problem, with 6.3.1, I had to actually go into
the Fishbone help page and select one of the two colors for the
interface, that did the trick.
Simply emptying the cache (and I did it both from FF and by hand)
wasn't enough.

Unless you plan to start developing in perl, there is no reason to
install Activestate perl. You will not notice any
difference/improvement by installing it. Activestate also supply the
perl binaries and modules for free on their site which is enough to
begin developing using Notepad as an editor.

alot of problems with NPR streams (KCRW+WUSF2) here. The audio starts
to skip after 30 minutes or so. No problems when I went back down to
6.3.1.

Maybe it's just me, but I would find it super-helpful if people who
mention what OS they're using when discussing problems. I'm positive
(after 3 weeks of intense forum reading) that many more issues exist
with Slimserver running under Windows that under Linux and Mac OS.

Personally I downloaded a RPM to install on my ClarkConnect box from:

It seems he's asking baout disabling cross-fade, not gapless playback
(which is completely different).
Crossfade or fading in general modifies the audible part of the audio
to create a smooth transition that, albeit a fabricated one which is
not part of the original audio stream nor source.

No, I'm not using MP3. I use iTunes and rip using Apple Lossless. The
only switch that I see (in iTunes) is under options where a song can be
made part of a gapless album. These are all un-checked.

More generically, the Trillian chat feature is adapted from MSN's
feature allowing the same thing for music playing in WMP. Ditto with
Google Talk, which can pick up track info from either WMP or Winamp.

to slimserver 6.5.0. This is also on a Mac running OS X 10.4. When

The key here is that something is up with the rips. If the original CD
had gaps (which I assume it did) then those should be present as 2
second (usually) silences at the end of each track. Thus, when you play
the album back you get gaps as intended. If there aren't any gaps then
either (a) there

Given I didn't search super hard, but I couldn't find a solution to the
scanner crashes I was having. But, I just figured it out and thought

I use SlimServer with the iTunes library options. I had tracks that

situation is with the WRT54GS, but the latest version of the firmware
for the WRT54G broke DHCP for non-Windows clients. Workarounds were
assigning a manual IP address or downgrading the router firmware...

When I browse my music on the Squeezebox all my cuefiles show up as
empty. Worse still when I'm on a cue file and push to the right (so
normally all songs in that cue file would show up) the screen goes
black and I have to push the power button. I then get the screen of the
screensaver.

digital inputs. Using 6.5.1 - 10571 . Needs to be a short delay between
switching to enable a lock to the digital stream or something. Using
WinXP SP2.
