My library is in iTunes.
I'm not sure how I can limit the rescan to a small subsection of itunes
folders, unless going outside of itunes and in that case it's not really
testing my setup accurately. If you know a way to do it, please do let
me know. (I mean without completely redefining the itune
One small suggestion, and it pertains to many of us when troubleshooting
a problem
If you have to do a series of rescans to see if proposed fixes are
working, it saves a bunch of time if you'll redefine the library so
it's a tiny subset of your full library, like one artist or one genre.

Just uninstalled 6.5.0 completely and reinstalled 6.5.1 agian and it
works OK this time. Weird???

Upgraded my SB2 to 6.5.1 from 6.5.0 and lost the display. The update
went normal, but after hitting the brightnees button on the display to
update the firmware the display went out at reboot and would not come
back on. I could control the player from the server, ie music would
play etc. But no dis

unfortunately WPA is something I cannot use. :(

restoring that and upgrading directly to 6.5.2, my thumbnails are now
working again. I have performed several scans and they are back! Woo

The last 10 to 15 seconds are being cut off of my songs. Only seems to
happen on flac and wav files. I have been updating the software nightly.
I am using windows 2000 server. Never used to happen on the old 6.5.1
nightly. Since I have upgraded to the official release. The problem
started.
Can someone point me in the direction of a good telnet client for
Windows that I can use with the Slimserver CLI? In addition what should
be the settings? From the doc I see it outputs UTF-8 but how can I
transalte the output parameters such as "%3A" to ":" by default?

You can do the same thing with the IP address for your desktop. For
instance: http://192.168.2.2:9000. You can find the IP address under
Server Settings at the bottom.

Point the browser on your laptop to the desktop, port 9000.
I do it all the time. Any browser, any laptop,

Search the forums for mcafee and you'll find plenty of problems with it...

Is the PC wired to the router? Does it have both a wired connection and
a wireless connection? If so you'll need to play around with network
settings and Internet Connection Sharing or bridging settings to get it
to send traffic over the wired connection first.

That's the most likely reason. The SB1 operates at 802.11b speeds.
Sending WAV (transcoded FLAC) at 1411 kbps to it should work under

You have to be exact with the WEP/WPA passphrase. Off by one character
and it won't work. This includes capitalization as well as leading or

releated to files encoded using Max. BTW, we don't use Quicktime
anymore to decode ALAC, it's done with the open source ALAC decoder.

That might be easier and better than copying the wiki, translating it,

The SB1 is 'b' rather than 'g' wireless networking - so 10Mb/s rather

Server performance is unlikely to be an issue as it is not very hard to
transcode FLAC to WAV. But WAV demands more network throughput...
Other issues? Only that FF/REW won't work if you are transcoding at the

For info in case this helps anyone else.
I had my reply from Logitech support yesterday evening. It suggested I
fix the problem by opening up my network by turning off WEP.
I tested with this and it worked.
Needless to say - when I turned it back on the squeezebox didn't
connect once again. S
All the devices on my LAN use static IP addresses, and I recently
decided to change them all from 192.168.*1*.x to 192.168.*0*.x (to make
it easier to move my laptop between my office and one of my main
clients). After doing this, everythings working except the Slim
Server access.
Neither Squee
After installing v6.5.1 and upgrading the micro code in the Slim Device
all my M4A music does not play. MP3 music works OK. Any solution to
this problem ?

Hi all
Can anyone tell me what the deal is with the SB1 and FLAC encoding?
I understand that native FLAC was not included until the SB2 hardware.
Does this mean then that the FLAC decoding is done by Slimserver, and
then the music transmitted as uncompressed over the network?
If that is indeed
IIRC an SB1 doesn't decode FLAC but will decode WAV - so those FLAC
files are presumeably being transcoded to WAV on the server. While this
does put an extra load on the server its unlikely to be a problem unless
it is already very busy (have you looked at "performance" in Task
Manager?).

slimserver.pref stores your settings. If you want to be really sure, copy
away the program files/SlimServer folder.

What did work for me was deleting all embedded artwork (easy to do
using MP3Tag) and relying only on the cover.jpg 's in each album
directory.

On further testing I have discovered that the "stutter" only happens
when I play a FLAC file. MP3 files seem to play ok without any
problems.
So could this be a problem with my Wireless Router or a problem with
