My thoughts on the issue of wireless robustness:
I have three squeezeboxes. One of them has connection problems.
This problematic one is in a room with two receivers for wireless 2.4

I know the security camera receivers interfere with the squeezebox,

My latest version of Slimserver 6.5.4 fails to run automatically on

'Restart' could be added as well. So if you've changed a config, rather
than having to close it, wait and then manually restart. Why not just
have a right-click option on the tray icon to 'Restart'?

SlimServer is about that slow on my machine to. I Have SlimServer
installed on a Centrino 1.7GHz, 1GB Laptop with Windows XP. Just
installed Slimserver 6.5 a few days ago. Seems like the Mysqld.exe
pocess is the problem. Sometimes it uses 100% CPU for a longer period.

Are there any programs for windows XP supporting SqueezeBox so I don't
have to use SlimServer?
(Love SqueezeBox but hate SlimServer. Have nothing but problems with
SlimServer. Think I'm going to stop there before this is turning into a
hate mail.)

There are two ways to go I can think of. There is sort of limited upnp
functionality with slimserver that might work with some upnp programs -
it sees my orb server for example though doesn't seem to quite work with
it properly - you might try a few upnp servers and have reasonable luck
Better
Or leave Slimserver in place, but use one of the other front ends -
Moose is a very good alternative.

Does mc3slim not require a functioning Slimserver (although maybe not
one which has scanned the library)?
The excellent OrangeCD music manager will scan your library and has an

No. The only way not to have to use SlimServer is relying on
SqueezeNetwork and its attached services (mp3tunes, Rhapsody, etc.). All
other application described here only work with a SlimServer
I am using Creative T20s right by my bed - stunning performance for
their size and price. I paid 40 euros on ebay. A secondhand SB will
cost you at least four times this. I also have A5s but maybe they are a

Yes for mc2slim you need to have installed slimserver but you dont have
to actually use it...

I used my SB3 for the first time in several months, and it immediately
downloaded a firmware upgrade. The unit hung after the automatic
reboot, requiring me to unplug and plug in again. After the unplug,
the unit works fine, but will hang periodically. The Information tab

Slimserver is much faster on Linux. I've been using a 1.5 GHz machine

It was a link indeed. It only showed up with dir *.lnk /s
That is one to remember as have been caught a few times before with

Interestingly a search in windows explorer and a find in cygwin did not
show the culprit.

There's a lot more to it than just the antenna. The SB3 could be made
to be much more robust. But then it would cost closer to the $1K Dell
(with everyone then complaining about the cost).

I upgraded the server software. The new version of slimserver required
me to upgrade the firmware again. This resulted in Version 81, and it
now shows that I have a SB3. Weird.

If you're only getting 20% under good conditions, you might want to
consider a wired connection instead. If pulling ethernet cable isn't an
option, consider a pair of homeplug adapters. They carry the network
signal over your household electrical wires. You'll need two adapters:

The SB does have a good For the Money Value to it. Part of your answer

it credit for. It is a wireless bridge, its has a high quality DAC, it
has a headphone amp, it has both analog and multiple digital outs, it
has a VF
