I've been considering a subscription to one of these services, but I
can't find any threads in this forum or anywhere else comparing the two
with respect to the Squeezebox experience. Are there material
differences?

Could be the network port on the transporter is bad. Call Logitech
support. If they can't figure out, they will replace it.

I can't live without my SB's either, nor my family, we all depend on
them playing the music we like. Without hassle from cd's getting lost or
damaged.
