O.k., I purchased SqueezePlayer and Orange Squeeze now to try on my

Should work fine.
Log into your MySqueezeBox.com account see if players show up. Sure
your login info is correct on your players and LMS server? You had this
working before but is now not working on a Mac? Or you purchased the
player used and may already be connected to a different MySB
Probably best to try a J River forum as that is where the problem lies,
good luck. :)

Stutter is generally caused either by CPU or Network. Assuming CPU load
on the server has been checked and found to be low.
Could it be a network problem ? Perhaps when LMS downsamples direct to
Touch it plays as Flac but when using JRiver/Whitebear it is sent as PCM
?
I can portforward via ssh and get mpc to run LMS, but I'd love to use
something like Squeezeslave to connect remotely to my LMS when I'm at
work. Tried port-forwarding 3483/9000, but no luck. Anyone have an idea
how to do this? Thanks!
Thanks to everyone who took the time to try to help. My initial query
was in this thread since AndrewFG started it off describing his
experiments in higher resolutions. I suppose I'll have to wait for
newer versions of Whitebear. It's a great app, just not yet ready for
the highest resolution
I have long wanted to play tracks directly from iTunes to squeezebox,
using the command line interface. (The reason I want to do this is that
I can actually find my music in iTunes, because it has an adequate
search facility.)
I have an applescript to do this, based on previous applescripts by
I made a new variant on the script that I previously posted. The new
versions allows arbitrary unicode in paths (so it's good for tracks with
titles containing accented characters, etc.).
I posted the new script to a new thread,
Okay, iPhone 4 acquired; I'll give this another try tonight. Thanks for
the tip about the 3G's pending doom.

Update: I'm using a wiped-clean iPhone 4 and it also can't see my
server, even though my Squeezeboxes can. It's on the same Wi-Fi
network. Can I somehow specify the IP or hostname in iPeng Party?

No, not in iPeng Party. Well, you can, but then you'd need the full
iPeng to do so.
I am pretty sure it's not the iPhone but has something to do with your
network. Either your server doesn't accept UDP broadcasts or doesn't
reply to them properly. Something like that. My personal guess is that

Yes. But if the gateway is the same as the server then for a client

Then why doesn't it work? You said you can open the server's web

I have no idea why server discovery would not work if that is the case
and if the gateway address is not the problem.
No idea why it's not working. It'd be nice if

Why don't you just buy?
When it doesn't work, use the 'report a problem' button in the order
confirmation or in the iTunes purchase history and typically Apple
refunds within days.

I've never bought anything from the Appstore before and everything on
there says that

Well, they say that, but then they are not allowed to do it that way. So
they hide it a bit.
It works as bluegaspode writes: there's a report a
