Bingo. That was it. Either I did not see the drop down button next to
"formatting" or I did not realize that the button would allow me to find
options other than formatting. I'm not very good at rooting around on my
iBook (obviously). It is a hand-me-down from my daughter and I use it

Since I cannot update to 7.7.3, what are the steps in 7.7.2 I need to
take to prevent the notices each day that there is a new version
available?
Settings/Advanced/Software updates: disable checks etc. Then go to LMS'
cache folder (can be found in Settings/Information) and remove installers
LMS > Settings > Advanced > Software Updates > Do not check & Do not
download

Just to add that this is a very well resolved little distro.
Anyone thinking of trying Vortexbox or wanting a CSOS alternative for
regular x86 PC hardware should give this a spin - It uses a firmware
file rather than being a repository based distribution so you are much
less likely to run into p
