It was indeed a problem on my network. Thanks to Michael for the clues
that helped me track it down. All is well now.
I'm always happy when it turns out the problem was on the user's side.
Saves me a lot of work :-).

I was very happy with the sound of my Squeezebox Touch connected with
coax to the Arcam Irdac.
Comparing it to the Pi B+ Picoreplayer with Digi+, also connected with
coax to the same DAC, made me change my mind somehow.

The problem with entering the wireless key in a SB is you do it so
infrequently that it proves to be a massive problem remembering how the
remote works. Fortunately most of mine are wired!
