It got me thinking - on my laptop, I can see the speed that I'm
connected to the wireless network. Is there any way to tell how fast the
connections for each Squeezebox is?
(I'm aware of the Network Test function to gauge throughput, but for
clarity I'm asking about t
use the lowest brightness setting.
As you say, it's not massively noticeable from a distance (it's just
different to what I'm used to). I'm in the process of getting a

network connected to the same Squeeze Server, but don't have the
problem. Presumably this is a hardware problem with the Classic?

If by "Original Squeezebox" you mean the SB1 rather than the Classic,
remember that the SB1 doesn't support any form of WPA. From what I
remember, it's WEP only.

I took a look at the Sonos iPhone demo on their site. I'm feeling a bit
dirty now... ;) but the multi player volume control looks really nice:

ecause AlienBBC converts the WMA stream on the
server, which the v1 is unable to do. The v3 (and v2) are supposedly
able to do this conversion natively.
Someone else may be able to confirm/contradict this. My memory is a
little hazy.

after I press up or down, the
screen blanks for half a second or so. It seems to be time based - if
I'm quick, I can get through 2 or 3 songs on the list before the screen
blanks out.

My mistake - original Squeezebox streaming fine now after installing the
correct version of AlienBBC.
Interesting that the SB3 can play ESPN and Capital without AlienBBC,
but the SB1 seems to need Alien...

Perhaps you could also give the Logitech take on the open source
approach? Most folks around these parts (myself included) believe that
it's a major strength of the Slim Devices portfolio, and at this time
could be concerned about the direction Logitech may take.

I for one think the new form factor is just what the SB has been
lacking. It doesn't look like a $10 radio alarm anymore, and it's gonna
look great on top of my silver mini system. It's also going to stay out
of the way of the vents of my amp.

If I understand your question correctly, you can do this by checking
'Hide when Minimized' in the Options menu. This will minimise
SlimServer to the Windows SysTray; it will not show on the Taskbar.
