server, the hardware and built
in firmware is the limit with a NAS. Your situation is actually the
exact scenario I would recommend someone build a more beefy server with
either WHS (if you don't want to learn linux) or Ubuntu/Debian.

was thinking.
Anyway, we will agree to disagree on this, but the main point I was
trying to make is that there is NOTHING that a NAS can do that a small
power efficient server can't do. I am sure if I dug hard enough I
could even find one with 10 hot-swappable hard drives for you.
--
Jonnio
thanks for the reply - I never thought of that and it did indeed fix it.
I first tried to just enter my zip code in the box, but that didn't
work. So I signed up for an account and restarted squeezecenter to
make sure it sync'd with squeezenetwork. Walla - locals are back.

I think you pretty well have it figure out. IMO a home NAS is just a
very overpriced VERY slow PC. It has a market because they are quick
and easy to set up out of the box, but in order to get that your paying
about 2x what it's really worth.
--
Jonnio
from being NAS specific though - any computer
running linux with 2 hard drives can have a RAID

Title pretty much says it all. My ISP has made changes such that my
location no longer shows up on the IP based GEO tools. Is there any
way to override the location for the local radio stations?
Thanks

No, it would be router - homeplug - switch - squeezebox

do any of you guys have a spare router to put between the plug and the
squeezebox? There might be something screwy that the powerline
adapters are introducing that wouldn't get passed through a router.

if they are wireless one of em may be having some connection
problems...To fix it I would probably upgrade to 7.3.1 since it
completely rewrote the sync code and vastly improved it.

does the Roku use bandwidth even when it's not streaming a movie? I
would think anything that is taking the wireless bandwidth of the
receiver could cause this very issue.

Very cool idea - I would be interested in it, but I already have an up
and running Ubuntu server that I don't want to reformat as it is all
configured how I want with addons etc... If you could make it a
package that I could install I would be happy to tinker with it.

I just figured since the controller needs a pretty significant firmware
update to utilize the audio out that it was beyond the means of the
community to gin up.

Thanks peter - I did some digging and set up some expect scripts to run
as cron jobs on my server. One runs at 1100 and turns the player on
and plays the stream...the second turns the player off. Hopefully the
stream url doesn't change daily or that will really complicate things.

I think crossfading while sync'd is in 7.3

I was wondering if there is anyway to use my squeezebox with my PVR to
record some radio shows that I like. I was hoping to have it turn on
at 1100 and cue up a radio station, then turn off at 1400 with the
output feeding my Archos 605 PVR dock.
Thanks

I am curious how expandable my current system is (I am at 2 SB
receivers, and SBC, and a Boom with more in the near future)
I am curious how many receivers people have run before they started
running into sync or bandwidth issues.

horsepower (on a typical
older used pc), or the ability for players to sync up started to
suffer.
The other, bigger part, was just curiosity on how many people are going

The battery is actually quite large - it is over twice the size of an
IPOD touch and larger than an IPhone - both of which people use to
stream music regularly and have much larger screens to take up battery
juice.
--

saw the Iphone at 1200 and the touch at 500...I can dig out the sites
if that helps, not saying they are necessarily right, but that's what my
research found.

I have connected with the nokia skin just fine. I just went to
http://your.pc.ip.address:9000/Nokia770/
However, since every time the archos shuts off you have to re-establish
the wireless link and rebrowse to the page I quickly gave up on it.
