Try installing SSODS on it. It seems to have the same CPU as the TS-x09.
And on those SSODS runs fine with minor changes (see the included
"ssods-ts" script).

There was another change in the firmware. The updated ssods-2.18
(currently uploading) takes it into account. Reinstall
ssods-2.18-xxx.pat (ssods-fix.pat alone won't do).

Try it. You can always revert to the version you had now (you'll
probably have to rebuild the database). Remember to keep a copy of the
preferences file. All versions of Slimserver are still available at
slimdevices.com/downloads.

recommend a 64 MB Diskstation, that is a DS-106.
You could get a cheap small SATA disk and use your disk in an external
USB enclosure. SS(ODS) could play the "external" files as well and the
database would be on the internal disk.

I did not test it, but I am rather confident that it will work. The
101g+'s hardware must be much the same as that of the 106e and the
software is common for all Diskstations (apart from added features in
newer releases).
