I've only had a Duet and a Touch. Just taking into account the DAC/sound
quality, I would'nt hesitate to drop the Duet/Receiver; Touch is much
better.

How broken is broken? These are very simple devices. If you can get it
going on its last legs then buy one of those universal remotes that
learn codes (Philips 7060 springs to mind) and get it to learn.
