What about the server.log (you'll find it in the All Users profile)?

Some more information about the system (including firewall/antivirus)
might give us some idea. And give us a look at the server.log file, too.

On my brothers laptop after installing and rebooting it displays
"starting slimserver" but then stops. Tried both 6.5.3 and 7.0.2 A
