Hi there,
my wife is having a hard-core environmental drive and is going round
constantly unplugging devices on standby. Much as I agree this is
necessary, it is quite annoying to have to plug in my squeezebox to
listen to music. Anyone have a good idea how many watts it is using on
standby? Woul
Is this a standard squeezebox 3?
If so have a look at -

I highly recommend picking up a watts-up, or kill-a-watt meter to test
power draw.
The SB3 really doesn't have a standby mode, it just has an "off" mode
that changes what is on the screen.
With brightness set to 0, I think it uses 3-4 watts when "off"
The linked thread is also good.

The wall-wart power supply will draw power on its own, even if the SB is
turned off. Best bet is to connect it to a power strip and use that to
turn it and what it might be connected to off.
I recently got a kill-a-watt to figure out why our electric bill has
gone so high recently. If I remembe

When I measured with my Kill-a-watt it read 4 watts while 'off'. I'm
not sure how accurate or precise the kil
Thanks all! So about a tenth of a low wattage light bulb. Not much but
it all adds up.

Strangely, I've started changing some of my sockets to switchless. The
joys of having a toddler who's obsessed with switches, just like his
dad!
I've tried to save energy in other ways; more insulation in the house,
energy saving bulbs, turn the thermostat down etc. In my experience

I use electronic timers to switch stuff off. You can set them up to give
different times at the weekend. The timers themselves draw a little
current but judging from how cool they feel it's probably a miniscule
amount.
