You're right, selecting any option other than artist as first sort I get
almost instant page loading. Bit of a problem as that is the most
logical way to browse the collection.

Strangely, setting the thumbs to 50 took a full two minutes to load!
With thumbs set to 300 pixels (closer to the average folder.jpg image
size), it took a mere 40 seconds.
As mentioned earlier artwork is pre-cached during a full rescan. If you
change artwork size, the pre-cached files won't

Isn't artwork also post-cached, meaning you only have to scale it
once?
It is. But then you'd have to measure load time more than just once. I'm
not sure the OP did so.

Try it yourself with and without this option set. You should see a
very significant difference in the time it takes for pages to be
served.

After a few hours of poking and prodding, SC 7.0 is playing nicely with
my XP box, but one nagging problem removes some of fun from this
otherwise HUGE step up in GUI. I like to browse by album art, sorted by

First, what OS are you running (XP, Mac, flavour of Linux)?

I clocked a full load of all thumbs in the web gui this afternoon at 95

folders also have folder.png). Each individual track is also tagged

Album thumbnails are precached when you run a full clear/rescan. If you
change the thumbnail size after the last full clear/scan then the new
size won't be in the cache and will be generated at page generation
time. Subsequent page requests will use the cached images.
