So I finally got KEXP to stream correctly for me. Thanks for the help
during all of this.
I found my problem when I attempted to play FLAC on LMS - Softsqueeze.
It turns out that I did not have the ia32-libs installed for 12.04
Hello,
I'm sorry to rehash this again, but I just got another Ubuntu machine up
running 12.04 and using LMS 7.7.2. I've followed all of the same
instructions the last time I asked that helped me get this working.
However, I can't get it working anymore.

The only thing I can think of is that there could be some libraries
(e.g. Lame) that I had installed on the other machine that I don't have
on this machine.
My harddrive went kaput, and I wiped it and installed Ubuntu 12.04
again.

The custom-convert.conf trick you mentioned is for Windows ? Did you
alter it for Ubuntu ?
I suggest go back to a clean Ubuntu install.
1. Prove you can play a local WMA file or WMA internet radio stream on a
hardware player.
2. Disable windows media natrive and prove WMA no longer on hardware

When asking about a problem it is always good to give info about your
setup.
The plugin is not available for all version of SS/SBS/LMS and OS

Do you see other 3rd party plugins or is PlayWMA the only

Just to make sure no one is overlooking the obvious, note that the

The KEXP stream is non standard. It looks like a WMA stream but it is
not as the audio is not encoded with MS WMA encoding.

The PlayWMA plugin uses Mplayer to play WMA stream for those players
which do not have a WMA decoder (e.g. Squeezeplay). Mplayer has the

I was really excited when I found this forum page. However, it looks
like we are playing a different ballgame now. I have followed the
instructions here, but the Alien plugin is apparently dead and is
replaced by the BBC iPlayer plugin.
So I tried installing the BBC iPlayer plugin (I have

THANK YOU! Worked like a charm.
To re-cap, with AlienBBC being dead, you need a different plugin called
PlayWMA found in the Plugins section of the Logitech Media Server (new
name) settings. You'll also need mplayer if you don't have that
installed. Also, don't forget to disable the Windows
Apologies in advance for the newbie quality of this, my first post.
I've read what I could find on the forums and wiki, and I'm stumped.
Background: I'm currently in the process of moving my music to the
Squeezebox system. Right now, I'm configuring the Squeezebox Server

if you disable WMA decoding - then you need some app to do the mms

Thanks for the reply. So, I need to configure mplayer on the Ubuntu
(server) machine, as well as adding the AlienBBC plugin; is that
correct? Are there any references or tutorials you could point me
towards that might give me a basic understanding of how this works and
how it's done?
And then,
KEXP pretends that is a WMA stream - you disable WMA NOT WMA lossless.
With Ubuntu just install mplayer from the Ubuntu package manager - just
make sure it is the no GUI version. Install mplayer before AlienBBC.
Install ALienBBC plugin from WebUI Plugins settings. The WMA support
is historical
So, to sum up:
I need to use mplayer (via the AlienBBC plugin) to do the transcoding
from the WAV (provided by the KEXP stream) to FLAC.
And I must disable WMA. Presumably I must do the latter directly in
/etc/squeezeboxserver/custom-convert.conf, since the Squeezebox Server's
web interface
You disable using the WebUI Settings/Advanced/Filetypes - and change the
drop down box of the Windows Media Native entry to Disabled.

Addendum to my last: I installed mplayer-nogui, got the beta version of
AlienBBC (since I'm running version 7.4 of the Squeezebox Server) and
installed it, added the KEXP mms URL as a station, and finally, changed
my File Types configuration as you instructed. Shamefacedly, I must

Hi, everyone. I know that the topic of playing the KEXP uncompressed
stream over SqueezeCenter has been discussed here before. I'm bringing
it up again because the solution that worked for other people doesn't
for me. I'm running SqueezeCenter 7.3.3 on Mac OSX Leopard. I've got a

Where do I do that in Squeeze Center? I don't see an option for it.
Any other solutions?

I don't have SC in front of me but I think it's Settings/Filetypes -
look for the WMA/WMA option and switch it off.
