Of course Sonos is still dependent on third party hardware for actually
sourcing the data - I'd like to see them do 32 flac streams from a
486-based server with PIO disks :)

Sonos with their proprietary hardware and Wireless protocol may have to
define a 32 Zone limit as it may run out of power / bandwidth beyond
that limit.
My guess is that Slimserver limits initially depends on how much money
you want spend on hardware and the complexity of the network as
bandwidth
I prefer Slimserver(v7) + squeezebox3 system rather than such
multiZone system SONOS.
But Sonos directly announced in their specs. support not less than 32
simultaneous Zone.
But neither Logitech nor SlimDevices do not provide such information
about their product.
Quantity simultaneous Strea
No one really touched on this but in terms of CPU power SlimServer
scales pretty well. Unless you'll be transcoding, you won't need
anything special.
However transcoding 32 streams simultaneously will require some serious
CPU power!

I thought about disk I/O but it is not clear if the OP means really
means simultaneous or synchronised.
If it is 32 synchronised streams then disk I/O should not be an issue,
if they are 32 simultaneous different streams then disk I/O is an
issue.

If you're talking about 32 flac streams then disk starts to become an
issue as well.

My Sister has an MSI AXIS 700 Lite, 1GB RAM and 4 Squeezeboxes running -
never a problem. Server is not stressed at all. Maybe it would be else
for something other than mp3 playback.
maybe for 10 or more i would switch to a more powerfull machine.

I can not find any information on site and forums about computer
hardware requirements for great number simultaneously playing
squeezeboxes (8/10/20 or 32). I mean multizone audio multiroom mode.
Can anybody make all information table for users :
winwows PC /
Linux PC /
NAS
