In terms of DAC and DSP features/performance, Squeezebox1 is basically
the same as SLIMP3, except with the addition of s/pdif output and pcm
passthrough capability.
Squeezebox2 architecture has nothing in common with Squeezebox1 except
for the internal OS and few other layers of software.

the SB2 over their hi-end CD players costing several thousands of US
dollars. So it's probably very difficult to answer your question with
even a ball park figure.

Problem solved! It turns out my router had gotten into a weird
state where it was broadcasting on two channels at once. As a
result, devices that had already connected were working fine, but new
devices couldn't connect. After doing a hard reset on the router
and reconfiguring, the SB2 connected
I have heard of DHCP not working properly over wireless on Linksys
routers (I realise yours is a Netgear - but they are just as dodgy ;-)
). Are the other DHCP clients wired or wireless?

Well, if you are selecting an SSID from a list, then your wireless *is*
communicating with the router(s) !
There are only four things I can think of that will prevent the
completion of the connection: 1) mac address issues, 2) filtering, 3)
firewall, 4) security/authentication mechanisms.

I find that if I connect using a cable and then go back to wireless,
DHCP refuses to work until I do a hard reset. Try that (unplug power,
hold down Add, reconnect power, release Add when it says "Factory
Reset").

There's nothing bizarre about the IP address. The 169.254/16 address
range is used for automatic configurations when a static IP is not
configured and a DHCP server is not found.
Your SB2 is simply not receiving its DHCP allocated address, for some
unknown (as of yet) reason.

I just found a faster way to recover from this problem. Just unplug from
power source and leave idle for 15 minutes. Reconnect power and execute
a factory reset. Reconfigure all network parameters connect... all will
be ok.

Well, I tried the 6.2 nightly on the same PC (I uninstalled 6.1.1 then
installed 6.2). This involves firmware upgrade to 16. The key feature I
was looking for in 6.2 was not working correctly so I performed a
rollback to 6.1.1

if you are seeing nothing in the cpu usage, and nothing is actually crashing, it
may help to run the server via command line, with some debug flags set. This
way you can see ongoing activity and possibly track down exactly what is
causing the server to simply stall.

I had the conflict too. Short of Ebay, I solved it by using a Pronto
universal controler to send JVC codes and not the SlimDevice codes
which the Zenith DVD/VCR responded to. I noted the discussion on an
earlier post. I don't know if the the SB2 resolved this issue, as this
occurred on an SB.

So the isolated limitation here is FLAC using CueSheets... that's when
fast FWD/REV functionality does not exist.

I think I have identical problem as yours.
My SB2 has worked just fine for about 3 weeks.
Just yesterday however it literally stopped playing music. NOW PLAYING
shows the current song fine and connects to slimserver fine, but there
is no progress in the playing time bar - it stays on zero.

In my case, I do not think the Planet responds to just any code. It must
be due to Planet and the SB2 sharing some code set. I have a number of
other remote controllers in the same area. TVs, preamps, etc. They

The TopHits plugin imho is _not_ compatible with SlimServer 6.x. Please
remove it and try again.

Well, to jump back in on this thread:
I have a wired SB2 connected to a Netgear print server/bridge.
However, the bridge also connects to the xbox which means the SB2 is
basically powered off all the time.
I have been experiencing the same stuttering and freezing problems when
running SoftSquee
