First stop the server if its already running. Then open a command prompt
window:
cd \Program Files\Slimserver\server
slim --httpport:9080
Or you can try "slim --help" to see a list of al lthe options in case
you are interested.

open through my browser. My Squeezebox is now connected and reads my
music, and indicates what is playing, but there is no sound. Tried all
the volume adjustments, but it is silent. Please help.

Seems to think it is playing something. At one point after running CMD
prompt and then opening SLimServer through the new port on my browser,
I actually got it to play. But once I stopped it, it never came back.
Tells me the connections are fine.

Another way appears to be to change the parameter in: D:\Program
Files\SlimServer\server\slimserver.pref
Change httpport: 9000 --> new port of your choice

I'm having similar issues with my initial setup of my SliMP3. The
slimserver is in a constant state of "starting" and I can't access it
via the browser.
I've checked and have no firewalls/antivirus/antispy on, and
I ran the netstat and nothing is on 9000, and
I can ping my slimp3 fine,
