I have the same problem. It started appearing after I installed lame in
the \server\bin folder on my WinXP machine; don't know if this has
anything to do with it?
When I tried starting slimserver using the tray icon, it kept blinking
SlimServer starting for hours without actually fully starting.
I just tried the obvious Windows remedy, uninstalling and reinstalling,
and SlimServer seems to run fine now. Of course this means that I have
to rescan the library and reset all preferences, but at least it
works.
I uninstalled SlimServer, moved lame.exe to the C:\Windows folder,

For what it's worth, I've noticed this about the SlimServer Windows
installer... during the first SlimServer setup, the service installs
fine. Any subsequent setups (i.e. upgrade), the service is deleted and
the replacement service entry fails to install
I'm actually having the opposite problem in that slimserver is setup as
an automatic windows service and starts up properly automatically.
However, when I right click on the tray icon and exit/close, the
slim.exe programs stays resident when I look in task manager.
