For the DjangoZoom.com infrastructure we use the Ubuntu 10.10 AMIs provided by Canonical. We use the 32-bit and 64-bit images in us-east region: http://uec-images.ubuntu.com/releases/maverick/release/ They've also published a pretty good getting started with EC2 page here:
